Former WWE Official Told Maria Kanellis There Will Never Be A Second WWE Evolution Event
Posted On June 10, 2021
WWE has yet to welcome women evolution event since the first show in late 2018. And while current fans and wrestlers have remained optimistic about the event’s return, another former WWE star has stepped forward saying that WWE officials haven’t no interest in a evolution 2. Maria Kanellis, who had two stints with WWE between 2004-2020, recapped a conversation she had with former Senior Director of Talent Relations Mark Carrano during the Women’s struggle podcast this week.
“I was told this would not happen again,” said Kanellis (h / t Wrestling Inc.). “It was from Mark Carrano, that this will never happen again. And I mean, now I’m sure there’s such a buzz about it, I’m sure they’ll try to find a way to. do it again. But as far as I know, when I left the company the evolution never happened again. And I think the reason they did it the first time was more a coup de pub than real action. A real statement about women in wrestling. “
Mickie James, who was released from WWE on April 15, described a similar situation during the Adult women Podcast. James did not clarify whether or not Carrano was the one who told him.
“That person … he said to me, ‘they never will. Never. Women’s wrestling doesn’t really make any money. The lowest rated Women’s Evolution pay-per-view. never in WWE pay-per-view history. I understand what you’re trying to do, but I don’t understand why you are fighting so hard for this, ”James said.
Carrano ended up getting fired from the company after James revealed she had all of her belongings returned to her via a trash bag. Now known as the “TrashBag Gate”, several former women have also come forward saying they have received the same treatment.
Kanellis, who is now working in Ring of Honor again, also spoke in the interview about what she wants to see in women’s wrestling in the future.
“I want them to have more complete characters,” Kanellis said. “I want to know more than one thing. I want to know what your family is like or what makes you tick and I just don’t want to see one thing on screen all the time and that’s it. I am really tough. Like, I want more well rounded characters. I want there to be internal conflicts sometimes when it comes to all of these different stories going on with female wrestlers.
