Central Missouri Mules wins in Div. II World Series; Goal

Cole Taylor, a product of Lee’s Summit West High School, was 2 for 4 with a homerun and four RBIs and Olathe Northwest graduate Mason Green pitched six solid innings on Saturday as seeded Central Missouri opened the round. NCAA Division II World Series with a 9-3 victory over Northwestern Idaho Nazarene in Cary, NC.

The Mules (44-6) scored in all innings except the first, third and fifth innings, and Taylor played a big role in the attack, as usual. He has now hit 16 home runs this year.

Erik Webb was 2 for 4 with an RBI, Micah Evans was 2 for 2 and walked twice and Scott Wolverton was 3 for 4 with two runs.

Green, meanwhile, dispersed five hits, striking out eight and none against the eighth seeded Northwest Nazarene (34-9). Chase Plymell pitched the seventh and eighth innings and Brady Gavin pitched the ninth for Central Missouri.

The Mules will next play in the winner’s pool on Monday at 5 p.m. against fifth-seeded Tampa, a 7-6 winner on Saturday against Trevecca Nazarene in the only other game of the opening day.
