Football fans have taken to social media to criticize FIFA 21 player ratings after the popular video game placed Lionel Messi among the top rated for the upcoming edition.
The Argentinian, whose Barcelona side failed to win a trophy last season, was rated 93 by EA Sports, with Cristiano Ronaldo one down out of 92 as both stars were rated higher than Champions League winner Robert Lewandowski, who has had an exceptional season for Bayern. Munich but was rated at 91.
Messi and Ronaldo have been credited with being the best players in the world for many years, but many felt Lewandowski topped the pair in 2019-2020, scoring an incredible 55 goals in all competitions to secure the treble with the Bavarian.

The statistics released by the highly regarded video game are often a key source of debate for fans about who should be considered the best players in the world.
Several fans have cited Lewandowski’s 8-2 beating by Bayern against Messi’s Barcelona as the reason the Polish striker should have been ahead of him in the last issue.
“Messi is the highest rated player in FIFA 21. I just remind you that his team went without a trophy and their last game was 8-2”, was the opinion of @drFateTT after the publication of the highly anticipated ratings on social networks.
Fans have also targeted Ronaldo for the highest ranking with @iLatif writing: ‘Ronaldo didn’t do anything except score penalties last season but EA sports decided to give him a higher rating than Lewandowski who was supposed to win Balon D’or ”.

Messi still managed 31 goals and 26 assists in the last campaign, but his side have spent much of the season in crisis after ceding their La Liga lead to rivals ReaL Madrid before their quarter-final humiliation in Europe.
Ronaldo also had 37 more than impressive goals and seven assists as the 35-year-old helped Juventus claim the Serie A title last season.
Manchester City’s Kevin De Bruyne – the Premier League’s highest player – plus Paris Saint-Germain’s Neymar and Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Jan Oblak, are all next in the pecking order with a 91 rating in FIFA 21.
Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk, along with teammates Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, have 90 ratings on the game, as does star Kylian Mbappe of PSG and France.
