Lionel Messi ‘informs Barcelona of future plan’ as he asks Joan Laporta

Lionel Messi has told Barcelona he will stay at the club beyond this season, according to reports in Spain.

The Argentinian decided to leave last summer, signaling his intention to leave the Nou camp.

He ended up staying put, but with his contract expiring at the end of the season, Messi’s future remained in limbo with Manchester City and PSG both being touted as possible destinations.

Messi’s father Jorge, who also acts as an agent, has traveled to Spain to discuss his son’s future with club president Joan Laporta.

They have reported to Barcelona that the six-time Ballon d’Or intends to stay at the club, reports the Spanish TV channel TVE .

Messi made it clear to Laporta that investments need to be made in the squad as he aims for more honors.

Barcelona finished last season without a trophy as they went through two managers before appointing Ronald Koeman this summer.

The Dutchman introduced several young stars to the first team, which led to heightened optimism at the Nou Camp.

Koeman won his first trophy at the helm as Barcelona lifted the Copa del Rey earlier this month and Laporta’s return as president was always going to spur Messi’s desire to stay.

The 33-year-old, who has spent his entire career in Catalonia, wants more quality to arrive this summer and Erling Haaland has been linked with a move to Nou Camp.

Norwegian representatives recently visited Spain to discuss a possible move with Barcelona and their rivals Real Madrid.

Borussia Dortmund could miss out on the Champions League, which could force their hand in the transfer market.

The Catalans are struggling financially, however, which could hamper their ambitions to show off new faces this summer.
