MANILA, Philippines – Vanessa Bryant, widow of Kobe Bryant, announced that she was launching the Mambacita clothing line on Saturday to mark the 15th birthday of her daughter Gianna, who died with NBA legend in a helicopter crash on January 26. 2020.
Vanessa Bryant made the announcement on her Instagram account, which came just weeks after Kobe Bryant’s estate and Nike decided not to renew their long-standing partnership.
“In honor of my Gigi’s 15th birthday,” she said on Friday. “100% of the proceeds go to the Mamba Foundation and Mambacita Sports.”
Gianna’s nickname was “Mambacita”, derived from Kobe’s “Black Mamba” nickname.
Vanessa Bryant also said the collection will also be available in unisex and kids sizes.
According to a report, Vanessa and Kobe Bryant’s estate “had become frustrated with Nike” for limiting the availability of Kobe products during her retirement and after her death as well as the lack of availability of child-sized shoes.
“My hope will always be to allow Kobe fans to get and wear his products,” said Vanessa Bryant on ending the partnership with Nike. “I will continue to fight for this. Kobe products sell out in seconds. That says it all. “
