In the FIFA Gold Rush: How Players Make Big Money

The world’s greatest soccer players gathered in London last month for the Best FIFA Football Awards. Among them, an 18-year-old man from Saudi Arabia named Mosad Aldossary, rubbing shoulders with personalities like Luka Modric and Sergio Ramos.

He wasn’t ready for a price, but he’s definitely at his peak. “Msdossary,” as it is known in the esports world, won the FIFA eWorld Cup at the O2 Arena in London in August.

From that tournament alone he pocketed $ 250,000 (£ 191,000), but Msdossary is not the richest or most famous of FIFA players. Not by far.

The latest iteration of the hugely popular FIFA franchise was released in September. The YouTube collective Sidemen, led by KSI (center), makes a lot of money playing FIFA and other games

This distinction goes to FIFA YouTubers and Twitch streamers. Our parents told us to stop playing video games all day, but those are the people who didn’t listen. Now they are making a lot of money.

WHO IS KSI?

Real name Olajide Olatunji, KSI is causing a sensation on YouTube. Since he started making small FIFA videos, he now has nearly 20 million subscribers and is reportedly making up to £ 2.9million a year.

He has several rap EPs, starred in a movie alongside fellow YouTuber Caspar Lee, and is now the “ YouTube Boxing Champion ”, having beaten Joe Weller and drawn with Logan Paul in the ring.

KSI is part of Sidemen, a group of British YouTubers. They all drive luxury cars, travel the world in style, and four of them live together in a mansion.

That’s no reason to quit school and sit in front of the PlayStation or Xbox all day. These young internet stars are very good at what they do, whether it’s just playing FIFA or writing and editing videos. They are also incredibly good at self-promotion.

Take the example of KSI, whose real name is Olajide Olatunji, one of the most famous British YouTubers. He debuted on YouTube in 2011. He now has nearly 20 million subscribers and his videos have reached over 4 billion views. These days his profession is listed on Wikipedia as: “YouTuber, Rapper, Video Game Commentator, Comedian, Actor, Amateur Boxer”.

He released rap albums. He starred in a movie. You may have seen his fight with fellow YouTuber Logan Paul, who has had over a million pay-per-view purchases, and many more millions have watched him online afterwards.

KSI is said to make £ 2.9million a year from sponsorships, merchandise sales and advertising revenue, and it was FIFA that made him famous. From making videos of small goals and skill moves to comedy skits, to a time of controversy – which seems to be becoming a norm for the biggest names on the internet (see: Logan Paul) – KSI is now a global superstar.

HOW TO MAKE MONEY ON YOUTUBE

YouTube creators make money from advertising revenue from ads placed around uploaded content.

Most YouTubers earn money by signing up for the “YouTube Partner Program”. YouTube places ads before and during your videos and distributes the revenue 55-45% in favor of users.

It’s hard to give an exact figure on what people earn, but downloaders earn around £ 1 to £ 3 for every 1,000 views they generate, although the bigger names will earn more. KSI has seen 4 billion views since starting to download

The biggest stars also have sponsorship deals and merchandise sales in addition to their YouTube earnings, and will make millions a year.

Msdossary and Spencer ‘Gorilla’ Ealing, FIFA world champion last year, are extremely good at FIFA, and it’s a full-time job to be that good. Esports pros are signed into teams and the best players have big contracts.

Msdossary won £ 200,000 from the FIFA eWorld Cup but it was just a tournament, there are many more throughout the year. Gorilla had a pretty disappointing year by his standards, but he still won over £ 30,000 in cash prizes.

It’s also a full time job to be a successful YouTuber. A video that is only a few minutes can take hours, or even days, to film and edit.

And people love to watch them do it. Whether they’re watching Gorilla broadcast his top-tier FIFA game or watching Harry ‘wroetoshaw’ Lewis open player packs in FIFA Ultimate Team, it’s a form of entertainment.

Just as people tune in to watch Lionel Messi run rings around his opponents, they’ll load a Twitch stream to watch FIFA’s top players do the same. Just like people log in to watch a comedy show on TV, they upload a YouTube video and watch a joke from a FIFA player with their audience.

Now the Premier League and EA Sports have teamed up to present the ePremier League. The best FIFA players in the country will have the chance to represent real-world clubs and earn money doing so. More and more opportunities for players to make money doing what they love are opening up all the time.

THE BLACK MARKET FUT COIN

If you want to get new players for your Ultimate Team in FIFA, you need to spend FUT Coins. You can either buy card packs that have random players in there and hope to get lucky, or buy players directly from the auction house.

Naturally, players need a lot of coins to make the best team. However, it takes a long time to earn them in the game.

Thus, websites sell coins directly for real money, but this is not a practice enjoyed by EA Sports.

You can get 20,000 coins for just a few pounds, but to get the best players you’ll have to spend a lot. For example, getting Lionel Messi, which can cost anywhere from 700,000 to 1,000,000, can cost you over £ 100.

However, you don’t have to be famous to make money playing FIFA. You don’t even have to be that good at the game.

The creators of EA Sports games are strongly opposed to this practice, but there are ways to make real money by selling your Ultimate Team Coins on the FIFA Black Market. It’s a big deal, and although EA tries to fight it, it’s nearly impossible.

These are websites where you can purchase coins to add to your FIFA account. There are also websites where you can sell coins. If you’re lucky enough to grab a Cristiano Ronaldo, icon, or other extremely rare card, most people will use them in the game.

Others could sell them to the FIFA auction house and then offload the huge amount of coins for real money. You can even sell your entire FIFA account on eBay if you’re done. You’re not going to become a millionaire that way, but it’s pretty easy to turn a profit if you’re willing to bend and break some rules.

But in order to make a lot of money, you will need to put in some time, dedication, and maybe a little luck along the way.
