COVID hits IPL: CSK-RR clash to be postponed due to positive report from Balaji

BCCI will reschedule Wednesday’s IPL game between Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals here as CSK was forced into hard quarantine after bowling coach L Balaji tested positive for COVID-19.

As per Council standard operating procedure, anyone who has been in contact with an infected person must undergo six days of strict quarantine and return three negative RT-PCR reports during it.

“Tomorrow’s match at Arun Jaitley Stadium between CSK and RR will be postponed according to SOP rules. As Balaji was in contact with the players, they all entered strict quarantine. They are supposed to be tested every day,” said a senior from BCCI. told PTI on conditions of anonymity.

When CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan was contacted, he said CSK informed BCCI of Balaji’s RT-PCR result.

“From our side, we had informed that Mr. Balaji had tested positive and that according to the SOPs, our players have been isolated,” said Viswanathan.

This is the second IPL game to be postponed after Monday’s game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore was postponed due to a few KKR players – Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier – testing positive.
