Lionel Messi hosted a private barbecue with his Barcelona teammates at his home on Monday, ahead of his side’s main La Liga clash with league leaders Atletico Madrid.
Barcelona beat Valencia 3-2 on Sunday, Messi scoring a brace and Antoine Griezmann also scoring the scoresheet.
Ronald Koeman’s side have four league games to play and, ahead of their important run, the team attended a meal at Messi’s as part of a team bonding exercise.
According to Marca, the team would normally meet at a restaurant, but it was decided to have a barbecue at the captain’s in Castelldefels instead.
The players attended the meal with their partners and, in footage captured by Spanish broadcaster Gol, they were heard chanting “Champions, champions!”
There are only two points between Barcelona and Atletico and Koeman’s side will get ahead of the league leaders if they beat them on Saturday.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta is confident they can win the league this season, saying: “I already said before the game against Valencia that if we win the remaining five games we are confident we will win the league .
“Well, now there are not five, now we have four games left to win the title.”
Barcelona assistant coach Alfred Schreuder is also confident in his side’s chances: “We showed character and the response was good.
“We’re alive in the title race and it’s very close. We don’t look at other people, we look at ourselves.
“Next week will not be a final game, there will be four left and we trust our players to win La Liga. We have closed the gap with Atletico since January and have played well the last three months.
“The past cannot be changed, and now we look to the Atletico game. We still have a lot on our hands.”
