MANILA, Philippines – Floyd Mayweather Jr. has fought many boxing greats throughout his flawless 21-year professional career.
But of them all, Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao stood out as the best with whom he shared the ring.
“The best fighter I ever fought was probably Manny Pacquiao,” Mayweather told rapper Gillie Da King’s The Million Dollaz Worth of Game podcast. “It’s because of his movement. He’s a hell of a fighter and I can see why he’s won so many fights and I can see why he’s become a hall of famer. These are just certain movements he makes. “
It’s been six years since Mayweather and Pacquiao featured in one of the greatest fights in boxing history.
Mayweather defeated Pacquiao by unanimous decision in their unifying welterweight showdown – which would have grossed $ 600 million in total – making it the most lucrative fight of all time.
Mayweather, 44, has been retired since Conor McGregor’s 10th round stoppage in 2017 and has stressed he has no plans to return.
“It’s crazy that everyone asks me why you don’t come back and fight? said Mayweather. “So I look at the fighting game and I say okay, the fighters fight and they make three million, four million, six million, seven million, some may even make 10 to 20 million, but I do shows and j ‘make 20., 25, 100 million for exhibitions. So why would I come back and fight and get a $ 35 million guarantee when I’m doing shows and getting $ 100 million.
The former pound-for-pound king, however, did exhibition fights instead.
He is scheduled for an exhibition match against YouTuber Logan Paul on June 6 in Miami.
In December 2018, Mayweather reportedly won $ 9 million in a three-round show against Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa in Saitama, Japan. A fight that lasted only one round with Mayweather decking the surpassed Nasukawa three times.
