A warning about unsafe swimming conditions on Lake Michigan beaches is in effect until 10 p.m. Thursday.
The National Weather Service Beach Hazard Statement is in effect for beaches in Mason, Oceana, Muskegon and Ottawa counties.
Strong waves, strong currents and dangerous swimming conditions are expected. Jetties can be heavily flooded by waves.
The worst swimming conditions will be on the south side of south piers such as Grand Haven State Park and Pere Marquette Park in Muskegon.
– Strong currents can drag swimmers into deeper water and high waves can drag people off the jetties.
– Stay out of the water to avoid dangerous swimming conditions and do not venture onto the docks.
– Find out from your local authorities about potential beach closures.
