Posted On July 3, 2021
Eliminated again in the semi-final of the CAF Champions League, Wydad saw the next day his eternal enemy, Raja, win his qualification for the final of the CAF Cup. The Reds, who are however six points ahead in the league, want to heal their games to get closer to a title that will win them a lot of good. It will be on the occasion of the 130e Casablanca derby, this Saturday July 3.
The hot and boiling Casablanca derby is therefore being played tonight at the Mohammed V Complex. Like last season, it will be behind closed doors due to the health situation. But all football lovers will have their eyes riveted on this clash between two teams who love to hate each other. Leader of the classification with 6 points in advance, Wydad (54 points) has the cards in hand to go for the title on the 21ste, especially since there will only be five days left to complete the Season. The Reds, winners in the first leg (2-0), will certainly want to extinguish any hope of the Greens’ return. Raja indeed lost in his last match in the league against one of the worst-ranked teams, Youssoufia Berrechid (1-0). A defeat that almost enters his chances of sacred this season. But this derby sometimes holds surprises and remains a good way to delay the party at the Wydad.
Wydad in better shape
Nationally, Wydad is surfing a fine series of 12 games without a setback. In the cup and in the league, the Reds have lined up 8 wins and 4 draws. Better, they shone offensively thanks to Ayoub El Kaâbi, in Libya Muaid Ellafi and winger Mohamed Ounajem. They remain the best attack (47 goals), far ahead of Raja (37). The Greens, however, have the best defense with 19 goals conceded, one less than their rivals. However, the criticisms are more and more harsh against the Tunisian coach Faouzi Benzarti.
El Kaâbi and Malango, duel of the top scorers …
This 130e Derby de Casa also offers a great showcase for Ben Malango and Ayoub El Kaâbi who are fighting for the title of top scorer. Barred last season by injuries, the Congolese international is currently shining brightly. El Kaâbi is not to be outdone, with a double signed against Moghreb de Tetouan on Wednesday June 30 The two have now totaled 14 league goals each. In 36 matches in all competitions, the Congolese scored 21 times for three offerings. In as many games, El Kaâbi has practically the same statistics (21 goals and 4 assists).
A face-to-face meeting of Tunisian coaches
We will also closely scrutinize the match between the coaches: two Tunisians. The experienced Faouzi Benzarti will do his compatriot Lassad Chebbi. The first is no longer to be presented on an African scale, while the second is in the process of making a success of its bet on the bench of the Greens.
Since their first confrontation in 1957, Raja have won 36 times in this derby against 30 for Wydad, while the two football giants have failed to separate 63 times. In the list, the WAC still remains the title in the league, even if the Raja contests some sacred. The Reds have 20 titles against 12 for their rivals. If the WAC won its first crown in 1948, the Raja had to wait until 1988 to taste this pleasure.
