Dustin Poirier will arrest Conor McGregor again, according to his head coach Mike Brown.
The Louisiana native knocked out the Irishman for the first time in his MMA career when the pair fought in January, after stopping when they first met.
And American Top Team coach Brown, who cornered Poirier in that rematch and will be at UFC 264 again, believes he’s better looking than ever and likely will be able to beat. McGregor at a distance once again.
Talk with Combat mirror Ahead of the PPV showdown, Brown said he believes this could be a Fight of the Year Contestant, but is confident his man will get the job done within the 25-minute limit.
“The fighting game is crazy, it’s unpredictable but at the end of the day I think it’s going to be another stop,” Brown said.
“In 25 minutes, just because of their two styles, it’s probably not going to go the distance and I imagine Dustin will be the one to do it.
“I imagine he’ll stop it at some point, maybe early, maybe late, I’m not sure but it’s gonna be a war for sure, like everyone Dustin is in. .
“It’s just the way Dustin is, each of them is fight of the night, fight of the week, fight of the year contestants, each one it’s just his DNA, he can’t get away with it. avoid.”
When asked if Poirier would be willing to use his wrestling more than in their previous two fights given his brief success in the rematch, Brown replied that he expected the fight to go on more. on the feet than on the ground.
“They’re both standing guys,” he explained. “But of course it’s an MMA fight and Dustin will do whatever it takes to win.
“He’s in there, he’s rough and filthy all the time, but I’m sure deep in his heart he probably wants to knock him out, but it’s an MMA fight so they’re going to do anything.”
Brown could not confirm that Poirier will face Charles Oliveira next for the lightweight title, but said it made the most sense due to his number one ranking in the division.
“Of course [it makes the most sense], ”he added.“ He was the number one guy when he fought Conor [the second time].
“Maybe that’s why he didn’t even seek the title because maybe the best two are already fighting, and maybe he’s comfortable with it.”
