Fortnite players will soon be able to test their mettle in the hit game’s first single player tournament, which is sure to include a lot of the intense and unrestricted gameplay the video game is known for.
Apparently known as the Alpha Tournament, Fortnite’s upcoming single player tournament will feature a new matchmaking system and will be largely similar to the Solo Showdown ranked game mode implemented in May.
Here’s everything you need to know about Fortnite’s premier single player tournament, including start and end dates, rules, matchmaking system, prizes, and information about the video game itself.
Fortnite players will be able to compete in the first single player video game tournament very soon
Fortnite solo tournament start and end times
The tournament is scheduled to run from 7 p.m. EST to 10 p.m. EST on Tuesday, October 16 (5 p.m. BST until 8 p.m. BST for UK tournament hours) and finally end on Sunday, October 21.
Fortnite Solo Tournament Rules
Scoring will work the same way Epic Games uses for pro-level play, mixing victory and elimination-based scoring to determine the final match ranking.
Fortnite Single Player Tournament Matchmaking
For its first single player tournament, a new skill-based system will be implemented for Fortnite.
Avoiding the old matchmaking system which saw players matched according to the platform they are using, the new system will see players matched based on their performance in the tournament.
The new system is ultimately designed to make matches fairer and give less skilled players a better chance of winning.
Fortnite Solo Tournament Prize
To reach 20 points, the reward will be a “shiny pin”, possibly a new category of items or a banner.
At this time, the exact details of the reward, including whether it will display on players’ in-game avatar, have not been revealed by Epic Games.
What is Fortnite?
Fortnite is a Free-to-Play Action Shooting video game developed and published by Epic Games.
Boasting a player base of 125 million people worldwide, the game was first released in September 2017 and its popular Battle Royale mode was added shortly thereafter in September 2017.
Fortnite Battle Royale sees 100 players battle it out in intense, fast-paced matches that mix shooter play with equipment scavenging and the ability to build fortifications on the map.
The hit video game is currently available to play on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Windows, MacOS, iOS, and Android.
