Alabama swimming and diving scheduled for six for 2021 Olympics

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Swimming and diving in Alabama has six men and women slated to compete in the Tokyo Olympics this summer. This count includes three women and three men as well as three who are making a return to the Olympics.

Rhyan White earned his spot at the recent United States Olympic Team Trials in Omaha. She is the first woman from Alabama to make the U.S. swim team and the third member of the Crimson Tide women’s program to represent the U.S. team at the Olympics, after Ellen McGrath Owens (diving / 1992) and Susan Bartholomew Williams (triathlon / 2004). She will be joined by her teammates and fellow Olympians for the first time Kalia Antoniou other Diana petkova.

Other members of the Crimson Tide family making the trip to Tokyo include Kristian Gkolomeev and Abbas Qali, who both competed in the Rio Olympics in 2016, as well as Anton McKee who will compete in his third Olympiad in 2021.

Overall, Alabama’s swimming and diving have been represented at every Olympics since 1972 and have won 14 medals, including six gold.

The swimming events are scheduled to start July 25 and end August 2 at the Tokyo Games.
