GEORGES CITY: Penang has decided to offer an incentive of RM 10,000 each to the two state athletes who are part of the Malaysian contingent at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.
In a statement yesterday, Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow (Photo) said the incentive was to encourage the two athletes, Chan Peng Soon and Jeremiah Loo Phay Xing, to do well at the world’s biggest sporting event.
“I believe their success can lift our spirits, our dreams and our desire to support the development of prestigious sports and enhance the role and talent of human capital in achieving Penang Vision 2030.
“Although the Tokyo 2020 Olympics have not yet started, the important thing is that their efforts and success to represent the country and Penang have fueled sportsmanship and the people’s hopes that Malaysia will win its very first gold medal, ”he said.
Commuter Chan and artistic gymnast Loo are among 30 athletes who will represent Malaysia at the Games, which take place from July 23 to August 8.
