Perez de Real says he is the victim of conspiracy as quotes from Raul and Casillas appear

MADRID: Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has said he has been targeted for the failure of the Super League after old recordings came out on Tuesday in which he attacked club legends Iker Casillas and Raul Gonzalez.

The recordings, which date from 2006, were published Tuesday in the online newspaper El Confidencial.

At the time, Perez was no longer president of Real Madrid. He ended his first term by resigning in February of the same year. He was re-elected in 2009.

“Casillas is not the Real Madrid goalkeeper,” he said. “He is not and never has been. He was a big failure. “

“The problem is, people love him, love him, talk to him, they stand up for him so much,” Perez said.

“He’s one of the biggest frauds and the other is Raul, Real Madrid’s two biggest frauds are first Raul and second Casillas.”

The quotes had already appeared in a book by journalist José Antonio Abellan “Aggression against Real Madrid” published in 2015.

Perez complained in a statement released by Real on Tuesday that Abellan recorded the remarks in secret. Perez said the timing was a result of his role as Super League organizer.

“The quotes come from conversations secretly recorded by Jose Antonio Abellan, who has been trying to sell them for years without success,” Perez said.

“These are vague sentences taken from conversations taken out of the general context in which they occur,” said Perez.

“Let them be reproduced now, after so many years, I understand that this is due to my participation as one of the promoters of the Super League.”

While nine of the 12 Super League clubs admitted their mistake, Real Madrid, along with Barcelona and Juventus, refused to give up on the project.

Perez concluded by saying that his lawyers are “studying possible measures to be taken.” -AFP
