Arsenal’s loss to Hibernian in the opener in their pre-season preparations revealed the need for reinforcements at Emirates Stadium.
The Gunners have already added Nuno Tavares to Mikel Arteta’s squad to replace Kieran Tierney at left-back.
Attention will now turn to other targets on Arteta’s shopping list, namely Brighton center-back Ben White.
White’s decision turned into a long saga, but progress could be made as early as this week, with Arsenal also aiming for a new midfielder.
Here, Football Mirror brings you all the latest news on the Arsenal transfer …
Odegaard’s move could be underway
At the start of the summer transfer window, Martin Odegaard was one of Arsenal’s prime targets.
The Norwegian had spent a successful six-month loan spell with the Gunners, becoming a regular on Mikel Arteta’s side.
He returned to Real Madrid at the end of that loan spell and confirmed his intention to fight for a place in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
It seemed to spell the end of Arsenal’s hopes of bringing him back to the Premier League, but Odegaard’s plans have suffered a heavy blow that reopens the door for the Gunners.
According to The Athletic, that big blow is the fact that La Liga are expected to lower Madrid’s salary cap for the coming season.
And Odegaard is among those at risk of displacement as Los Blancos seek to raise funds to make their other transfers.
Willock gave the green light to leave
Joe Willock has reportedly been allowed to leave Arsenal this summer, although Mikel Arteta has said he wants to keep him at the club.
The midfielder struggled to find playing time under Arteta and joined Newcastle on loan for the second half of last season.
He has scored eight goals in 14 games for the Magpies to help them ensure the survival of the Premier League.

Arteta had said on Tuesday that he wanted to keep the youngster: “He is our player and while he is here we will try to make the most of him.”
But according to 90min, talks have already started between the Gunners and Newcastle over a possible loan deal.
One obstacle to a deal, however, is Arsenal’s insistence that a £ 15million buyout clause be included, something Newcastle are unwilling to accept.
White progress expected
Arsenal are expected to progress on their move to Ben White in the next seven days, only to clinch their main summer window goal.
The Gunners have seen two offers rejected by Brighton for the defender, but Mikel Arteta is still keen to bring him to the Emirates Stadium.
The transfer appeared to have stalled with White on international service with England for Euro 2020.
But Peter O’Rourke believes the deal will resume its course as the Whites are now freed from the tournament focus.
“No problem on this one, this one will really speed up now that England and the Euros are over,” he said of the transfer on the Football Terrace podcast.
“I can see something happening with Ben White later this week or early next week. Arsenal are pretty confident they have done enough to secure this deal.”
