Mayfield wrestling champion identifies suspected kidnapper in Chucky’s store

LAS CRUCES – A Mayfield student is hailed as a hero after helping stop an alleged kidnapping and assault by pinning a man to the ground until authorities arrive.

Daniel Beltran Arroyo, 22, of Phoenix, was arrested on Wednesday by Doña Ana County Sheriff’s Deputies after witnesses said he attempted to abduct three children from the Chucky gas station in Doña Ana. He is also accused of assaulting several customers and employees who tried to intervene.

Arroyo is charged with four counts of assault and battery, two counts of assault, two counts of child abuse and one count of kidnapping.

The seemingly random attack didn’t end until Canaan Bower stepped into the fray and was able to control Arroyo, within seconds, according to witness statements.
