Euro 2021-Racism: Bukayo Saka breaks the silence

After Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho, Bukayo Saka finally speaks. The 19-year-old winger, who missed his penalty on Sunday in the penalty shoot-out between England and Italy in the Euro final, suffered racist threats and insults on social networks.
Since his missed penalty in the Euro final against Italy, the young England winger Bukayo Saka had not yet spoken. The Gunner finally broke the silence on Thursday. He first thanked his support and magnified the course of England. The Three Lions had never reached the final of one euro. “I stayed away from social media for a few days to spend time with my family and reflect on the past few weeks. This message will not do justice to my gratitude for all the love I have received, and I feel I have to thank everyone who has supported me. Helping this team reach our first final in 55 years, seeing my family in the crowd, knowing what they gave up to help me get there, that means everything to me ” he began by writing.

Then the 19-year-old became the subject of racist slurs. Bukayo Sako, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho the three shooters who failed their attempt in the final were indeed victims of insults on social networks. The native Nigerian thus pointed the finger at the owners of these platforms. “I don’t want a child or an adult to have to receive the hateful and hurtful messages that me, Marcus and Jadon have received this week,” he said. I always knew the kind of hate I was going to receive and it’s a sad reality that your powerful platforms weren’t doing enough to stop the messages. There is no room for racism or hatred of any kind in football. Or in any area of society (…) ”.
