Alabama women’s tennis places eighth on ITA varsity team

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – For the fifth year in a row, the Alabama women’s tennis team has seen seven or more athletes win the Intercollegiate Tennis Association athlete-scholar honors, the organization announced this week. The Crimson Tide placed eight athletes on this year’s list, leading the seven honors from the previous four seasons.

Loudmilla Bencheikh, Alba Cortina Pou, Sacha Gorchanyuk, Anne-Marie Hiser, Moka Ito, Vanesa Nikolovova, Sydney Orifice other Sydney riley won the honor for Alabama.

Cortina Pou was named a varsity athlete by the ITA for the fourth time, while Ito won her third honor and Gorchanyuk and Riley got their second. Freshmen Bencheikh, Hiser, Nikolovova and Orefice made their debut as university ITA athletes.

The ITA All-Academic Team Award is open to any ITA program that has a GPA of 3.20 or higher (on a scale of 4.00). All scholarship recipients are taken into account in the team’s cumulative average for the current academic year.

In order to obtain ITA varsity athlete status, a player must meet the following criteria: be a varsity letter winner; have a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a scale of 4.00) for the current school year; and have been enrolled in their current school for at least two semesters (including first to last year).
