FA Cup reruns have been confirmed to be reintroduced for the 2021/22 season.
Replays of all rounds were removed last season due to the condensed match schedule caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
The move could give Manchester City and Manchester United a big blow as they enter the competition in the third round.
Both teams could potentially play two more matches if their tied third and fourth rounds end in draws.
The FA has removed reruns from the fifth round before the pandemic and that will continue.
It comes after it was also announced that the Carabao Cup will return to a two-legged affair starting in the coming season.
The extra matches add to an already busy campaign for both Manchester clubs, who will aim for glory in the Premier League, Champions League and both cup competitions.
Last season, City lost to Chelsea in the FA Cup semi-finals – a preview of their season-closing loss to the Blues in the Champions League final.
United were knocked out of the FA Cup in the quarter-finals after a 3-1 loss to eventual winner Leicester City.
The 2021/22 FA Cup schedule has been revealed, with the fourth round taking place a week later than usual due to an additional international break between January 24 and February 1.
The final will take place at Wembley on Saturday 14 May and if any of Manchester’s clubs make it to the final and win they will win over £ 3.3million as prize funds.
