BEIJING, July 18 (Reuters) – China is expected to complete construction work for the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics by October, Xinhua news agency reported on Sunday.
Fifty-three of the 57 winter Olympic projects in Beijing and nearby Yanqing have been completed, while the remaining four, including the renovation of the national stadium, known as the Bird’s Nest and the ceremony site opening of the 2008 Beijing Olympics, are expected to be completed in the coming months.
The national stadium will host the closing ceremony of the 2022 Winter Olympics.
Beijing venues will host snow events, while Yanqing, a mountain subdivision of Beijing Municipality, and Zhangjiakou in neighboring Hebei Province will host ice events such as downhill skiing and snowboarding. China announced in June that the 76 projects for the Winter Olympics in Zhangjiakou had been completed.
