Canterbury playmaker Lachlan Lewis escaped with just a fine for the strangest and dumbest act of the 2021 NRL season.
The 24-year-old was cited by the match review committee on Monday and faces a fine of $ 1,600 to $ 2,400 for a bizarre incident involving South Sydney star Cody Walker.
Lewis had led his Bulldogs to a 12-10 lead at half-time in their clash with South Sydney’s final at Cbus Super Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The siren sounded to signal the break and the players of the respective teams separated, heading for the hangars.

As Walker walked away, Lewis strangely approached him and was seen saying something to his opponent, albeit with a wry smile on his face.
Walker didn’t seem too interested in a conversation and Lewis suddenly wrapped his arms around Opposition No.6 and threw him to the ground in a tackle.
A shocked Walker attempted to retaliate as his Bunnies teammates scurried and piled up, and the Dogs players got involved in what quickly became an all-in scrum.
‘Wild Wests: Tales from Tiger Town’ premieres on Fox League, FOX8 and Kayo on Monday, July 19 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
Players on both sides were stunned at what had just happened, and Lewis was called in by referee Ben Cummins, who condemned the Bulldogs pivot.
“What about that! He tackled him and threw him to the ground,” shouted Fox League commentator Andrew Voss.
“Lachlan Lewis, or is it Conor McGregor?” Have you ever seen this?
“It’s just weird, it’s one of the craziest things I’ve seen on a rugby union pitch.”
Rugby league legend Greg Alexander was almost at a loss for words.
“He’s lost his mind,” Alexander said of Lewis.
It was arguably the strangest incident of the season yet and Bulldogs coach Trent Barrett was seen shaking his head in disbelief from his box as it unfolded.
Fox League pundits were just bewildered.
“It’s weird, I’ve never seen anything like it. He needs to read his mind, ”said Braith Anasta.
“I don’t understand why he did that. I still don’t know if it’s worth 10 in the morning, do I? “
Cooper Cronk was sure of it.
“It’s 10 minutes for stupidity,” Cronk said.
“But it’s a few flyweights, Lachlan Lewis probably thought it could escalate, so he took him to the ground. You can not do this.
“It starts with (all-in crash), after all the dogs have gone through the first half, they’re two, Lachlan Lewis does. Trent Barrett must be furious at halftime. “
Barrett told reporters after the game that it was “not in the character” of Lewis and that he did not know why he was sent in the trash.
Adding to Barrett’s woes, the Bulldogs were also sweating over the availability of accessory Dylan Napa and Jack Hetherington who were flagged in the same game, but even more, the duo also escaped bans and were also fined .
Needless to say, however, social media had no idea what to make of the Lewis incident either.
