Osaka returns as Big Three aim for history

new York [USA], July 22 (ANI): Defending US Open champion Naomi Osaka entered the women’s singles entry list at Flushing Meadows after missing Roland Garros and Wimbledon on mental health grounds.
The US Open will come back in force in August with a 100% fan capacity and a full roster of the game’s best players, with the men’s and women’s singles fields officially announced on Wednesday.
Each of ATP’s 103 top men entered the New York singles event, with the world number. 1 Novak Djokovic leading the field. The Serbian’s hunt for the calendar year Grand Slam – and possibly the Golden Slam – will be one of the main storylines for the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center.
The no. Rafael Nadal and No. 9 Roger Federer will also be looking for history as the Big Three enter New York level with a record 20 Grand Slam men’s singles titles, with singular status offered if one of them claim the crown of the US Open.
The women’s singles field has 15 Grand Slam champions among WTA entries.
Seven of these big winners are currently in the Top 10 of the WTA rankings. World number 1 Ashleigh Barty, who recently won her second major title at Wimbledon, tops the entry list ahead of the world number one. 2 Naomi Osaka, four-time slam winner; Australian Open 2020 champion and world number one. 4 Sofia Kenin; US Open 2019 winner Bianca Andreescu, the world no. 5; Roland-Garros 2020 champion and world No. 8 Iga Swiatek; and a pair of former No. 1 and two-time Slam 9 world champion Garbine Muguruza and world number one. 10 Simona Halep.
The July 19 edition of the World Rankings was used to determine the list of US Open Main Draw entries. Seeds will be determined and announced closer to the start of the event. (ANI)
