2021 Olympics: Franck Kessié offers victory to Ivory Coast

The Tokyo 2020 Olympics football tournament kicks off this Thursday. And African nations have distinguished themselves. After Egypt’s draw against Spain (0-0), Côte d’Ivoire beat Saudi Arabia (2-1).

Côte d’Ivoire has started its football tournament well in Tokyo Olympics 2020. The Elephants indeed beat Saudi Arabia (2-1) on Thursday. However, the Ivorians timidly started the meeting. But thanks to a CSC of the Saudis, the men of Haidara Soualiho were able to unlock their counter in the 39th minute. On a cross from captain Max-Alain Gradel, defender Abdulelah Al Amri deflects the trajectory of the ball putting it in the net. The Saudis quickly returned to the score in 44th minute.

The aura lasted to wait until the second half to see the Ivorians regain the advantage. Frank Kessié delivers Côte d’Ivoire in the 66th minute. The midfielder of AC Milan indeed marks the second but Ivorian on a pass from Amad Diallo. The Elephants are reassured before facing Brazil, reigning Olympic champion and Germany, vice-champion.

The representatives of Africa are making a very good start to the tournament at the Olympics. Rather during the day, Egypt held Spain in check (0-0). The other African country in the running, South Africa is currently facing Japan.
