High school basketball freak and social media star Mikey Williams could make “millions” in a landmark name, image and liking deal announced Thursday with Excel Sports Management.
The 17-year-old San Diego shooting guard is ranked No.1.7 overall prospect in the Class of 2023 by ESPN and will not be eligible for the NBA Draft until 2024.
Williams, who will attend Lake Norman Christian in Huntersville, NC this season and play for the Vertical Academy, is the first prep basketball player to sign with a sports agency to seek NIL endorsements and sponsorships.
“I am delighted to be the first high school athlete to make this decision,” Williams told ESPN. “I love hooping and I love engaging with my fans and I can’t wait to continue sharing my journey with everyone.”
Including the likelihood of a major footwear deal, Excel vice president Matt Davis told ESPN he believed the deal “was generating millions of dollars for this young man.”
Williams has more than 5 million subscribers on social media platforms Instagram, TikTok and Twitter, Excel said in a press release Thursday.
“Through a combination of hoops, bustle and booty, Mikey is one of the most engaging elite young athletes with an outstanding reputation and skill set,” the statement from Excel read. “He represents the times of today, with a community of followers that he has developed through creative, organized and convincing content.”
Williams, who is 6-foot-2 and 185 pounds, is a five-star consensus rookie and is ranked No. 1.5 in the 2023 class by the 247 Sports Composite.
