West Virginia Governor Jim Justice announced in Monday’s press conference that Mountain State High School winter sports would be allowed to train on February 14, with games scheduled to begin March 3.
Players must still have completed all 14 mandatory practices before playing in a game, and the state’s COVID measures map – infamous for its role in the 2020 West Virginia high school football season – will once again be in. game for winter sports.
Justice had previously postponed the start of the season from last fall to January before a second change moved everything to March. Now, with Monday’s announcement, high schools can start wrestling, swimming and basketball on Valentine’s Day.
