Barcelona [Spain], Sep 15 (ANI): FC Barcelona confirmed on Wednesday that Jordi Alba and Pedri were injured after losing to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League opener.
FC Bayern beat FC Barcelona 3-0 on Tuesday night, starting the Champions League campaign perfectly. Thomas Muller put Bayern ahead in the first half, with Robert Lewandowski doubling the lead after the restart and completing his brace in the finals, while the home side did not register any shots on target.
Barca’s woes continued after the game, with first-team player Pedri suffering a quadriceps injury to his left thigh. “The player is not available for selection and his recovery will dictate his return,” said FC Barcelona.
Pedri was in the starting XI against Bayern Munich and played the 90 minutes. In total this season, the midfielder has made two league appearances – the 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad at Camp Nou and the 1-1 draw at Athletic Club de San Mames.
Meanwhile, veteran Jordi Alba suffered a hamstring injury to his right thigh. The left-back had to be replaced in the 74th minute of the game against Bayern Munich at Camp Nou, giving way to Alejandro Balde to make his official first-team debut.
With the 3-0 defeat at Camp Nou, Barca lost the opening game of a Champions League group stage for the first time since 1997. It is a result that will put a dent in the chances of the Barca in Group E. The Spanish team will now continue their European trip on September 29 with a visit to Benfica in Lisbon. (ANI)
