Urban legend? Meyer among favorites to be first licensed NFL coach

Urban Meyer’s chances of being the first NFL coach to be fired this season grew somewhat after he said there was “no chance” he would leave the Jacksonville Jaguars for Southern Cal.

Meyer opened as a 350 favorite at SportsBetting.ag on Wednesday to be the first licensed coach, but those odds quickly stretched to 450. The former Florida and Ohio State coach’s name was mentioned as a successor. potential shortly after USC fired Clay Helton on Monday.

The Jaguars will host the Denver Broncos in Week 2, the Bears will have their home opener against the Cincinnati Bengals and the Vikings will travel to the Arizona Cardinals. Nagy’s contract expires at the end of next season while Zimmer is under contract until 2023.

Next on the list is New York Giants coach Joe Judge at 900. The Giants started with a loss to Denver and will host Washington on Thursday night.

Denver coach Vic Fangio and Zac Taylor of Cincinnati are on offer at 1,200, while Kliff Kingsbury of Arizona and Mike McCarthy of Dallas are at 1,400.

The bookmaker offers odds on all 32 coaches, with the longest shots to be first drawn this season being Andy Reid of Kansas City and Bruce Arians of Tampa Bay in 2000.
