KUALA LUMPUR: The 2021 Super League competition saw an increase in views compared to last season, when it registered 77.9 million views for the 132 games broadcast on the official unifi YouTube platform.
The Malaysian Football League (MFL) said in a statement today that data was collected until September 20 after the last Super League game on September 12.
According to MFL, the number of views increased from 16.2 million views in the 2020 season which only involved 66 games after being impacted by the implementation of the Movement Control Order (MCO) in due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
The 132 games broadcast this season live via Sports Channel on unifi TV and unifi PlayTV, unifi YouTube and RTM TV1 have recorded 35.8 million views.
MFL President Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan said the increase in viewership proved that the Malaysian League (M-League) was still close to the hearts of football fans in the country and had its own aura of its own.
“Of course, this is a very positive number in the development of the M-League, especially with the 2021 Super League which continues to be followed by football fans in the country. Meanwhile, MFL said that based on the data, the clash between Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT) and Selangor FC at Sultan Ibrahim Stadium, Iskandar Puteri on March 17 registered the most views with 1.71 million.
JDT’s match against Terengganu FC also at Iskandar Puteri on April 24 saw the second highest number of views with 1.69 million while the third was Penang FC’s match against JDT at City Stadium in George Town on May 8. (1.63 million).
The Southern Tigers (JDT) also dominated the top three live views with action against Terengganu FC at Iskandar Puteri on May 10, registering 698,341 views; 670,706 views facing Kedah Darul Aman (KDA) FC at Darul Aman Stadium, Alor Setar, May 4; and 651,295 views for their clash with Selangor FC at Iskandar Puteri on March 17.
