SAN DIEGO – Senior from the State of San Diego Klara Thormalm was named Mountain West Conference swimmer of the week for the week ending October 10. 10. The announcement was made from the conference office in Colorado Springs, Colorado on Tuesday morning.
Hailing from Vetlanda, Sweden, Thormalm competed in seven races last week, recorded wins in both individual competitions and finished first, second, third, fourth and fifth in five relay events.
Last Thursday, helping to secure the 29e Back-to-back double-competition victory, an 81-65 victory over Pepperdine, Thormalm was part of the winning team in the 200 Medley relay and secured a second place finish in the 200 freestyle relay.
On Friday and Saturday, the Aztecs were in Fresno, Calif., To face California, UCLA, Washington State, Fresno State and San Jose State in the Chick-Fil-A Invitational.
Thormalm, the reigning two-time Mountain West swimmer of the year, claimed two victories in Fresno. The first came in Friday’s 100 breaststroke and the second came in Saturday’s 200 breaststroke. She also swam a time trial in the 100 breaststroke and finished in 59.18, which is the second fastest time in program history, behind her own 58.68, which she set at the championships. of the NCAA in March.
In her three stints in Fresno, she landed third, fourth and fifth place.
She was a member of the 400 freestyle relay team, third, was fourth in the 400 medley relay and fifth in the 200 freestyle relay.
