Scotland coach Townsend names four unselected players to training squad

EDINBURG: Scotland have named South African flanker Dylan Richardson to a 36-man training squad ahead of their Fall International Series which begins this month, one of four new faces selected by coach Gregor Townsend (Photo).

Richardson, 22, plays for the Durban Sharks and qualifies for Scotland thanks to his Edinburgh-born father, and hopes to impress enough to make the final cup at camp next week.

He is joined by compatriot South Africa Pierre Schoeman, England-born lock Marshall Sykes and Australian-born opening half Charlie Savala among the team’s uncapped players.

Scotland will face Tonga on October 10. 30, before the matches against Australia, South Africa and Japan on successive weekends.

“With four tough test matches ahead of us in this year’s Fall International Series, it’s important that we bring the players together early, connect with them as coaches and allow them to grow as a group. “Townsend said in a Scottish Rugby press release on Wednesday. .

“We are delighted with the depth that we can draw on to build this practice squad and it offers a real opportunity for the players to get their hands on the selection of the full team for the Autumn Nations Series.” – Reuters
