MELBOURNE: Australia are eyeing a 2023 window to reschedule South Africa’s three-test series after withdrawing from the tour earlier this year, Cricket Australia boss Nick Hockley said on Thursday.
CA canceled the tour in February citing health risks, a move hailed by disappointment and frustration in South Africa.
“We’ve been working the last few months to look to reschedule, and we believe we’ve found a window in the schedule in 2023 to reschedule this tour,” Hockley said at a press conference after CA’s annual general meeting.
“Our relationship with South Africa is very strong.
“As we said at the time, we were very disappointed and I know our players were extremely disappointed not to be able to go to South Africa.”
Hockley declined to say which part of 2023.
Australia are set to host South Africa in a three-game series during their home summer in 2022/23 ahead of a white ball tour of India in early 2023 according to the International Cricket Council’s Future Tour schedule. .
Australia has not played a single overseas test since the COVID-19 pandemic and has postponed several tours, citing risks to the health and well-being of players, despite some players’ willingness to play in the lucrative Indian Premier League. – Reuters
