Madagascar 2020 champion ASCUT will participate in a qualifying tournament. The Malagasy will thus play against three other formations to qualify for the second edition of the Basketball Africa League (BAL). The competition is thus scheduled in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from October 26 to 31.
ASCUT is, however, going through difficulties and its participation is hypothetical. “Our wish is to participate in the qualifiers of the Africa League 2022 Basketball in Dar es Salaam. Only, on a problem with the plane tickets for the team’s travel ”, underlines Narson Rafidimanana, president of the club. The club does not yet have the means to finance his trip.
NBA only supports from the finals
“In principle, ASCUT is qualified for this tournament. But participation will depend on several parameters. It is the team that bears all the costs until the qualification for the final phase of the BAL. It is only at this stage that the NBA takes charge of the teams ”, said Jean Michel Ramaroson, president of the Madagascan basketball federation.
However, FIBA Africa and the NBA are organizing the qualifications. It is indeed for the nations whose champions are not entitled to a direct qualification. The tournaments are held in two divisions and are shot in four countries. It is therefore about Guinea and Cameroon for the western zone. Tanzania and South Africa for the southern zone.
ASCUT is in Pool D alongside Cobra Sport from South Sudan, Ethiopians from Hawassa City. And finally Kenyans from Ulinzi Warriors.
