Josh Hodgson signs, Wests Tigers, Canberra Raiders, contract

The Wests Tigers are set to sign star English hooker Josh Hodgson, according to the Sydney Morning Herald.

Hodgson has a year to complete his Canberra deal, but the Raiders are reportedly willing to let him go immediately, but also let him stay in the nation’s capital to see his contract if needed.

Hodgson’s 2022 contract would be worth $ 900,000, and the Raiders would need to tip in part even if he played for the Tigers next year.

He will be 32 at the start of next season, but is still considered one of the best hookers in the NRL. Only a few years ago, he was considered the second best in the game, behind Cameron Smith.

Hodgson has had a rough 2021 year at Canberra, relinquishing the captain’s post mid-season following a showdown with coach Ricky Stuart.

English compatriots George Williams and John Bateman also left the club under acrimonious circumstances within a matter of months.

The Broncos had been keen to sign the experienced rake, but it looks like the Tigers won’t benefit.

The Tigers had a 2021 horror season, which nearly cost coach Michael Maguire his job.

Maguire was saved from the ax, and this week they announced their first significant signing with Tyrone Peachey to join us.
