Sytnik and Djatej named MPSF male and female athletes of the week

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif .– After posting wins and helping Cal Poly’s men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams beat Fresno Pacific University on Sunday, the senior men’s swimmer Gennady Sytnik and first year swimmer Didi Djatej were named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation’s Male and Female Athletes of the Week on Tuesday.

Sytnik won the top MPSF Athlete of the Week award after winning the 100 backstroke with a time of 49.09, the fifth fastest time in school history and a season best time. MPSF. He also led the 200 IM relay swimming the 50 backstroke in 23.18 as the Mustangs took first place in the event. Then in the 200 freestyle, he helped his foursome win again by swimming his 50 freestyle in 21.21.

Djatej won the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1: 06.54, placed second in the 200 IM with a time of 2: 13.09 and helped Cal Poly take first place in the 200 IM relay by swimming his 50 breaststroke in 29.66. It is also the first MPSF weekly career award for her.

Cal Poly’s men’s swim and dive team beat Fresno Pacific 153-59 while the women’s team also beat Fresno Pacific by a score of 150-60.

The men’s and women’s swimming teams will be back in action this Friday and Saturday at the CSU Bakersfield sprint / invitational competition. The men’s and women’s diving teams will travel to Riverside on Saturday to participate in the Lancer Diving Invite.
