Cristiano Ronaldo stars in advertisement for new ZujuGP company

Manchester United’s Cristiano Ronaldo: five-time Ballon d’Or winner by day, kung fu fighting ninja by night.

For all the headlines the 36-year-old has made since returning to Old Trafford, this is certainly the leftmost field.

After teaming up with Salford City and Valencia shareholder Peter Lim, Ronaldo featured in an advertisement for Asian tech company ZujuGP, “showing” his fighting skills.

The commercial sees the Red Devils No.7 – or at least a CGI version of it – kicking swords and fire from enemies, before taking out their trademark celebration to defeat them and walk away with a brand umbrella.

So why?

Well, in 2015 Lim’s company Mint Media acquired Ronaldo’s coveted image rights – aside from those generated by the club he’s employed at, now United.

And the Portuguese legend announced on Monday that his new venture with Lim will be a platform that aims to unite football, technology and communication.

“You will never see football the same way again,” said a company statement.

The announcement comes on the heels of Ronaldo who made history (again) while he was in international service.

Three goals against Luxembourg saw him take a record 10 hat-tricks for Portugal, the most a player has ever achieved for a senior national team.

Sweden’s Sven Rydell had nine from 1923 to 1932, but Ronaldo overtook him with his 58th career treble.

The former Real Madrid and Juventus talisman wrote on Instagram: “A hat-trick is always a very special moment for any player.

“Fortunately I have done this throughout my career and this one, yesterday in the Algarve, takes on special importance to be the 10th in the service of the national team and also to be in front of our home crowd.

“Thank you to my teammates, without them this would not be possible, but also to the fans for their constant support! We continue to move forward together and focused on our goals!”

While with the national team, manager Fernando Santos raised concerns about Ronaldo’s fitness after starting on the bench in the Red Devils’ draw with Everton 12 days ago.

Santos explained the head of last Saturday’s qualifying game against Qatar: “He will go to the game because he needs playing time.

“It’s important for him at this stage[tomaintainhisphysicalformbyplayingregularmatches”[tomaintainhisfitnessbyplayingregulargames”[demaintenirsaformephysiqueenjouantdesmatchsréguliers”[tomaintainhisfitnessbyplayingregulargames”

He also won the United and Premier League Player of the Month award for September, his first month back in England’s top flight after a 12-year absence.

“Proud to have been voted player of the month among so many great Premier League players,” Ronaldo wrote again on Instagram.

“Thank you to all my teammates at Man. United, I couldn’t have done it without them. Let’s keep working hard and the results will come!”

And best of all, he did it all while practicing kung fu.
