Former two-weight world champion Badou Jack praised Dubai as he prepares to return to action at Friday’s massive event in Dubai – which also features boxing superstars Muhammad Waseem , Rocky Fielding and Ohara Davies.
It is promoted by Ahmed A Seddiqi for D4G Promotions, and will air on ESPN + in the US in association with Top Rank, on ESPN Knockout in Latin America and on IFL TV for the rest of the world.
Badou Jack returns to action against Samuel Crossed, Muhammad Waseem meets Rober Barrera in a flyweight world title eliminator, Rocky Fielding takes on Emmanuel Danso and Ohara Davies takes on Nicholas Mwangi.
Davies was originally scheduled to face Ismael Barroso, but visa issues for Barroso mean he had to withdraw from the fight, with Mwangi taking his place.
The final press conference took place on Wednesday, and here’s what everyone had to say ahead of the highly anticipated event.
Badou Jack said: “I am very happy to be fighting here in Dubai. I’ve been coming here for about five or six years and have lived here for a while. It will therefore be the first of many fights in Dubai.
“It’s the Las Vegas of the Middle East. Hopefully we can continue to bring great fights here and continue to build and develop the sport. My plan is to become the three division world champion, and I feel like I can do a great performance at this weight.
“My whole camp was in Dubai and we had a great time. I trained hard like I always do, and I’m going to take the win. “
Samuel Crossed said, “I’m excited for this fight. This is the biggest test of my life and I will give it my all. Camp went really well, I had a fight not too long ago so I’m in great shape and ready to go.
“Size can play a role in combat. He’s a strong fighter and he’s been the super middleweight and light heavyweight world champion, and I expect him to be strong at cruiserweight as well.
“It would change my life if I won on Friday. It’s a great opportunity and I’m going to grab it with both hands. I’m ready and let’s go and put on a show this week.”
Muhammad Waseem said: “I have been to Dubai several times and had some good fights, and I have high expectations for this fight on Friday. I worked really hard and I will prove that I am one of the best fighters in the division.
“I have devoted a lot of time to my training and I am more than ready for Friday. I had some good sparring and a great camp, and I worked really hard to get the win. “
Rober Barrera said: “I’m happy to be here in Dubai and I’m ready. I have studied my opponent and I know what he’s good at and what he’s not at, and I’m going to take advantage of it.
“I’ll keep my plans to myself because I’m not a big talker, but I’ll show my skills in the ring. I’ve trained a lot and I’m ready, and I’ve already proven that I’m ready for a world title. I will bring everything, and I hope he is too. I did not come this far to bring nothing. “
Rocky Fielding said: “I am delighted to be back. Last September I realized I wanted to fight again so I came to Dubai and while training here now is the perfect time to come back.
“I’ve been back and forth and sometimes I trained here and there with Jamie Moore in Manchester too, so I’m fully focused on getting the win on Friday.
“We’re going to finish on Friday and then I want to get active again and start. But first of all, everything revolves around this fight with Danso. “
Emmanuel Danso said: “I know Rocky is a top fighter, and it will be a good fight. I have trained very hard and I am going to do a great performance. If the knockout happens, I’ll take it. “
Ohara Davies said: “It was frustrating to discover Barroso. He is a high level fighter and I would have loved to fight him. I was there when he fought Kevin Mitchell and having the chance to test me against him would have been nice, but I’m happy to have one more fight and be able to come back this week.
“I can see Jack Catterall over there. Since we last fought he hasn’t done anything but I started and won the gold contract and now I’m ready to fight again so fighting is the thing main. It will be an easy job against Nicholas on Friday. “
Nicholas Mwangi said: “Ohara has not fought anyone like me. I can fight, I can box and I’m ready for him. This opportunity has arrived and you can’t say no.
“I’ll show exactly what I’m capable of on Friday. I was already training for a potential fight in December so I’m well prepared and will be victorious against Ohara Davies. “
D4G Promotions promoter Ahmed A Seddiqi said: “It’s a pleasure to have such big names coming to fight here, especially since there are a lot of other big promoters launching their own shows. In the region.
“It’s going to be a very special boxing night. Of course, Dubai is the “Las Vegas of the Middle East,” and hosting these massive events is in itself a huge achievement for the country. We have global names on the main card and then rising stars based here in Dubai in action on the undercard, so that helps to massively develop the sport. “
Fight week activities continue Thursday when fighters hit the scales during the weigh-in, ahead of Friday’s all-important fight night.
