JERUSALEM, Nov. 25 (Xinhua) – Israel’s champions Maccabi Haifa lost 1-0 at home to Bundesliga Union Berlin in the UEFA Conference League Group E fifth round on Thursday night.
Haifa remains with four points at the bottom of the four-team group where Union is in third place.
Feyenoord Rotterdam, who drew 2-2 in an away game against Slavia Prague, reached 11 points to secure first place and a place in the round of 16.
The Czechs are currently in second place with seven points, one more than the Germans, before a decisive match between the two teams in Berlin on December 9 in the final round of the pool.
After a first half without any serious chance to score, Haifa missed a first goal in the 48th minute, by striker Dean David.
Union scored the game-winning goal in the 66th minute, on a long-distance header from Norwegian midfielder Julian Ryerson, after a precise pass from Sheraldo Becker.
